Short Trips

Vilstalradweg

We took a long, hot ride along the Vils river and had some fun poking in and out of small forests and some vast fields. The ride is about 100km long and can be done in 1 or 2 days, depending on your tour plan. We chose to ride in July, and we paid the price, as it was hot hot hot! We did have some rain at the end of the second day, which was a welcome break. The trail is almost entirely paved, much of it over old rail lines. There are patches of gravel forest roads as well.

It is a physically easy ride if you start in Dorfen because then the path to Vilshofen an der Donau is entirely downhill.
Stopping in Vilsbiburg, Reisbach and Eichendorf are suitable for a rest and pleasant meal. You can get the train from Munich to Dorfen with the bike and set off as we did. Also, if you want to detour off the tour, there are many small villages within an hour or two ride that have some low-key interesting sights to see.
