Planning and Training

Training for touring is as essential as touring. Without some preparation, both mental and physical, a long tour will be much more challenging than it needs to be and less enjoyable. Multiple shorter tours with varying speeds and hills are the best training plan you can have. Unless you are training to race long distances, getting out on the trail for increasingly difficult rides before your tour will help build strength and stamina. Make sure to include rest and recovery days as well, and never overdo your training. Save the heroic efforts for the tour.
