Short Trips

A day trip is one of the most excellent ways to spend a few hours. Sometimes not even a whole day, but just a spin around the local area. I have lived here in this area for about seven years and still haven’t scratched the surface of all the great sights, so I keep turning through neighborhoods to see what is around. My wife has lived here all her life, but she also discovers new places and has a fun time remembering old sights.

Murnau

The biking here is fantastic. There are many varying terrains, with some big hills and some flat plains along the lakeside, and we found a huge Biergarten with some festival going on. It was packed and crazy with music and sound. On the ride back to Murnau am Staffelsee, I think we took the wrong path because the […]

Camping Shakedown

Since we have a long trip coming up to Belgium and camping almost every night, we thought a shakedown ride is a good idea. Pack up the bikes heavy with gear, ride a few small hills, and see how it all goes. So, we planned to ride to Riedenburg, camp there, then ride to Regensburg and take the […]

Vilstalradweg

We took a long, hot ride along the Vils river and had some fun poking in and out of small forests and some vast fields. The ride is about 100km long and can be done in 1 or 2 days, depending on your tour plan. We chose to ride in July, and we paid the […]

Chinese Tower

I got this idea I wanted to ride to Munich. I had this new Poison Pinion P.18 touring bike and wanted to see what it could do. We are planning a big trip to Belgium this year, and a long ride seems like the right thing to break in the tires. It was a hot day with […]

Abensberg

Christine and I took a fun ride to the Kuchlbauer Weissbierbrauerei, where the famous Kuchlbauer Tower stands looking like a cartoon in real life. The tower was built by the incredibly talented artist Hundertwasser and can be toured for a small fee. There is a museum of his work and a full brewery tour available for you […]

Ammersee Rundweg

I have always wanted to ride around one of the large lakes that sit south of Munich, just before the Alps begin. Chiemsee, Starnberger See, Tegernsee, Schliersee, Forggensee, and of course Ammersee. On this trip, I rode anti-clockwise. I missed the fantastic, historic brewery of Andechs, but that will be another tour for another day. […]
