We did 70 km and it was hard. Towards the end of the day, we had a rain shower, which we had hoped to miss, but it was really fabulous to get cooled off from a hot day. The day before it was much hotter, but today it was very humid.
The nature today was much different than yesterday, not so many farms, we left those behind shortly after leaving Ammersee. The ride mostly had small towns villages, and lots of river roads and forest trails.
Garmisch is a great place to visit, it has a wonderful downtown, many historic buildings, and lots of restaurants and bars and almost every kind of food you can imagine that you’d like to eat. The buildings are historic and many have painted walls with large murals.
The ride here was uphill, almost all day long, just a long slog, not too many major hills, but they were a few to remind us that we’re on the bike trip – of course. I’ve taken this route before from Murnau to Garmisch, and I highly recommend this trip.
Again, like yesterday’s tour, you can do it as a day trip from Murnau and go to Garmisch. Stay overnight and ride back, or you can take the train back to Murnau since DB has regular service.
